What Have The Two Teams Done Recently?
Australia
After getting knocked out of the T20 World Cup in the Super Eight round at the hands of Afghanistan and India, Australia have featured in five T20I games spread across two series.
They crushed Scotland 3-0 in the first and made it four in a row when they overcame England in the opening game of their series.
England came back to win the second game of that series in Cardiff before the third match was washed out, leaving it tied at 1-1.
Australia have won 109 and lost 84 T20Is since they started playing this format.
Pakistan
Pakistan haven’t played T20I cricket since their shock exit at the T20 World Cup. They were beaten by USA in their opener in that tournament, losing in the Super Over before failing to chase down a sub-par 119 against India.
While they defeated Canada and Ireland in the ensuing two matches, it wasn’t enough for them to make it through to the Super Eights after that.
Overall, Pakistan is 142-92 on win-loss in this format.
Australia vs Pakistan Head-to-Head Stats

- Australia are on a four-match winning streak against Pakistan in this format.
- The last time they faced off was in April 2022 though, which was a one-of T20I as a part of Australia’s tour of Pakistan.
- There have been only three completed T20Is between these two teams in Australia and the hosts have won every single one of them.
Australia vs Pakistan 1st T20I Preview & Predictions with Latest Odds*
While Australia start off as 3/5 favourites to win this opening game, it must be quickly added they would be missing a few of their top-notch players in this series. And that’s where a now-confident Pakistan team, coming off a stunning 2-1 ODI win over the hosts, could come into their own.
Both teams have made a notable few changes to their squads but while the core of the Pakistan side remains the same, Australia have a few new faces. That includes a change in their captain, Josh Inglis who will become the 14th Aussie to lead them in this format.
We think this is a very close series to call with Pakistan entering in a lot more relaxed state after defeating England in a Test series and Australia in the ODIs just before this. This is a far cry from how things had been earlier this year for them.
A slight edge to Australia though.
