What Have The Two Teams Done Recently?
England have been struggling in the white ball format and that comes as a surprise after they won the 2019 edition of the World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup as well.
Their stocks plummetted quite badly after that with a shock seventh spot at the 2023 World Cup and a scrappy showing at the 2024 T20 World Cup in which they were bundled out at the semifinal stage. So much so that their coach Matthew Mott was forced to resign from the job.
In contrast, Australia won the 2023 World Cup but went down to Afghanistan and India in the 2024 T20 World Cup to crash out of the competition without reaching the last four stage.

Australia are coming off a poor T20 World Cup where they failed to make it past the Super Eight stage. On the other hand, England did make it to the semifinal but were scratchy throughout the competition and lost to Australia, South Africa and then to India in the semifinals to crash out of the competition.
Both are without their usual captains too – Australia have rested Pat Cummins and they will be led by Mitchell Marsh as a result while England have Phil Salt leading the line-up after Jos Buttler’s fitness hasn’t improved enough for a comeback.
