What Have The Two Teams Done Recently?
India and Bangladesh featured in a two-match Test series. India won it 2-0, by easing to victories in both games.
In the first game of this series, India ran away easy winners of Bangladesh, chasing down a small score before crushing them by 86 runs in the second game to take an unassailable 2-0 lead.
The following is what happened for the two teams before the start of this series.
India
India are the T20 World Cup winners, having clinched the trophy earlier this year. Following that their big guns have retired from the format and the young ones featured in T20I series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, away from home.
In the former, Zimbabwe managed to win one game before India raced away to a 4-1 victory. And then against Sri Lanka they grabbed an easy 2-0 lead before the third match was tied under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav with Sri Lanka failing to make 28 runs off the final 29 balls despite having nine wickets in hand.
In the Super Over that followed, Sri Lanka were bowled out for two and India won it off the very first ball.
Bangladesh
Bangladesh had a decent outing in the T20 World Cup and while they didn’t make it to the semifinals, they did overcome Sri Lanka, Netherlands and Nepal in the first round. And even in their game against South Africa, it was a mere four runs that separated the two sides.
The Super Eight stage that followed proved to be too much for them to handle as they lost by 28 runs, 50 runs and eight runs respectively to Australia, India and Afghanistan respectively. That Afghanistan game was a bit of a surprise though given they had the game by the scuff of its neck at one stage.
Quick India vs Bangladesh 3rd T20I Preview
India had gone into the Test series as overwhelming favourites but in the T20Is, one expected the matches to be a lot closer. In fact there was a suggestion elsewhere that Bangladesh might even win a game.
What has happened so far underlines the fact that India has begun dominating this format as well.
Not only have they won both these opening matches of the series, they have also done that in a way that Bangladesh would be wondering what hit them. If in the first game, it was the Indian bowlers who set up the win after bowling Bangladesh out for 127, it was their batters who blasted them to a victory.
Nitish Kumar Reddy proved to be the difference between the two sides, having gone from 13 off 13 to a 34-ball 74. And with support from Rinku Singh and Hardik Pandya, India were propelled to 221 for nine batting first.
He then picked up a couple of wickets to help India coast to an easy win.
And while India might change things around a little to give some of the others a chance – like Ravi Bishnoi might get a look-in – it doesn’t look likely that Bangladesh will have too many answers.
