Second Test Daily Update & Odds
Day Four
Unless it rains for most part of the final day, this game looks to be going just one way – Bangladesh’s way. They ended the previous day at 42/0 in a chase of 185 and will start 1/3 (at 1xbet) to win this encounter and in turn the series.
What was so fascinating to watch was the manner in which the Bangladesh fast bowlers took the home team batters down in double quick time. After having declared their first innings of the previous Test with around 450 on the board, Pakistan have collapsed three times in a row including in this second innings in which they were bowled out for 172.
Can Pakistan (4/1 at 1xbet) make a comeback here?
Day Three
Pakistan might be in a spot of bother with Bangladesh fighting back to concede just a 10-run lead thanks to a Litton Das century but all’s not lost for them as far as this Test is concerned. Especially with some rain still around.
Which is also why Pakistan are 5/2 (at 1xbet) to win this game with a draw at a much shorter 9/11 at the start of the fourth day’s play.
For Pakistan to have a chance in this game they would need not only the weather to remain clear but also some respite for their batters who have generally been off the mark in the last two innings.
Can they set Bangladesh a 250-plus target and then use the final day conditions to carve out a comeback-from-behind win? That’s a definite possibility this could go right down to the wire we feel.
Day Three Lunch
While Pakistan would have felt a little under-par with their effort on the first innings after getting bowled out for 274, they reduced Bangladesh to 26/6 at one stage in response. Mehediy Hasan Miraz and Litton Das have got them out of a bit of trouble as they head into the lunch break at 75/6 but they are still 50 away from the follow-on mark (which is 150 runs for a four-day game).
Bangladesh will now hope to ensure there are no follow-ons because given this game has already lost a day, that could play heavily in the favour of a draw.
Still, by getting all those early wickets, Pakistan have moved back to 10/11 (at 1xbet) to win this in in-play betting while a draw is at 11/10.
Day One
Rain ended any hopes of the second Test match starting off on day one and that has effectively turned this into a four-day game. What it also means is that if Pakistan want to avoid losing a home series to Bangladesh they will need to win this in four days.
The trouble for Pakistan is two-fold.
One, they will need the pitch to behave a lot better than it did in the first Test for their bowlers. Secondly, the weather forecast for at least two of the remaining four days isn’t the greatest which makes draw (4/11 at 1xbet) a very solid bet here.
Pakistan are 11/4 while Bangladesh a distant 11/1 to force a result out of this one (both with 1xbet)
What Have The Two Teams Done Recently?
Pakistan had begun their WTC 2023-25 campaign with a 2-0 series win over Sri Lanka but were then pummelled 3-0 in Australia. This left them with 22 points out of a possible 60 thanks to a loss of two points to poor over-rates and a point percentage of 36.66.
At the start of this series they were fifth on the points table and in dire need to win these two Tests because of the difficult battles that follow in the times to come. They have fallen to eighth following this opening Test loss.
Bangladesh did surprise a few with a win in New Zealand but since then have lost a second Test against the same opponent and were routed 2-0 by Sri Lanka at home. That left them with a 25% score and seventh on the table before the start of this series.
A win against Pakistan propelled them to 40% and above South Africa and Pakistan in the points table at the moment.
Quick PAK vs BAN 2nd Test Preview
Rain could play a part yet again in Rawalpindi as Pakistan look to come back from a stunning defeat in the first Test when they take to field against Bangladesh.
Days one, four and five have been forecast to be affected by weather which could mean Bangladesh have a decent chance of winning their first ever series against Pakistan. Till before the start of this series they had lost 12 of the 13 Tests against Pakistan with one other ending in a draw.
Pakistan have been forced to drop Shaheen Shah Afridi as he looks to get into a space as good as he was at his peak. He did not have a great opening Test but he could claim that nor did the other bowlers. The hosts could bring in the leggie, Abrar Ahmed.
On the other hand, Babar Azam gets a reprieve and will look to get back to his run-scoring ways.
Bangladesh will hope the pitch remains as flat as it was last game but the point to note here is that the groundsman might not have had a lot of time to prepare the pitch. It might not be the same pitch used in the opening Test but even the adjoining surfaces would have experienced some wear and tear.
While it looks green for now, spinners could make a mark on this one.
