South Africa Women are coming off a stunning showing in the T20 World Cup in which they shocked Australia Women in the semifinals to make it to the final.
They were outdone by New Zealand Women in that title-decider but would have taken heart from the fact they did well to even get to that stage despite not being a favourite to do so.
This was after they had won a T20I series in Pakistan 2-1 earlier in the year.
In the first game of this series, however, they lost to England Women with four balls to spare. And this was followed by a thumping 36-run loss in the second game.
England Women
England Women were one of the favourites to make the T20 World Cup final and they did well to win three in a row – defeating South Africa, Scotland and Bangladesh to be perched comfortably at the top of the table.
Suddenly, a defeat at the hands of West Indies Women meant they were left in a three-way tussle with South Africa and West Indies and lost out on net run-rate to fall short of making even the semifinals.
Interestingly, England Women were 11-1 on win-loss entering that T20 World Cup.
They have managed to continue their excellent ride in T20Is since then by beating South Africa Women in the opening game here thanks to Nat Sciver-Brunt’s solid all-round performance. And they followed that up with a Sarah Glenn taking a four-fer to win them the second game too.
