The 2024 Women’s Asia Cup saw a total of eight teams take part in it. The teams were split into two groups of four apiece with each of the sides featuring in three group games each.
At the end of the league stage of the tournament, the top two teams from each of the groups made it to the semifinals which was followed by the final.

What Happened in the 2024 Women’s Asia Cup?
On the verge of winning their eighth title, India were stopped on their tracks by a spirited performance from the hosts Sri Lanka, who chased down 165 with eight balls to spare.
Sri Lanka won the final by eight wickets thanks to a player-of-the-match-winning innings from the bat of Harshitha Samarawickrama who made a 51-ball 69. This was after Smriti Mandhana had hit 60 off 47 balls to help India to what looked like a solid score.
Earlier in the tournament, India Women defeated Pakistan, Nepal and UAE Women, while Sri Lanka overcame Bangladesh, Thailand and Malaysia to enter the semifinals. India crushed Bangladesh while Sri Lanka edged past Pakistan in the semifinals to set up the title-decider. Chamari Athapaththu won the player-of-the-tournament award.
What Happened in the 2023 Women’s Asia Cup?
India won their seventh title when they eased past Sri Lanka in the final of the previous edition of the Asia Cup. Played in 2022, India won five of their six matches during the group stages, losing to only Pakistan.
Pakistan came second in the group after suffering a shock loss at the hands of Thailand while Sri Lanka finished third with four wins, losing to both India and Pakistan. Thailand edged past Bangladesh despite losing to them because the latter saw their game against UAE getting washed out.
In the semifinals, India crushed Thailand by 74 runs while Sri Lanka edged out Pakistan by one run to set up a final.
