What Have The Two Teams Done So Far?
India were the winners of the first ever edition of the T20 World Cup way back in 2007 but in the 17 years and seven editions that have followed, they have really struggled to make it count.
They have made the final just once and were knocked out of the competition in the semifinal the last time it was played in 2022 in Australia. The nature of that loss, a 10-wicket pumelling to England, pointed to how other teams have moved to a different brand of cricket than India is used to playing in white ball cricket in recent times.
Ireland made it through to the tournament via the Europe Qualifier route but there will be a few worries for them. They had Scotland, Austria, Denmark, Germany, Italy and Jersey for company in the Regional Final but ended up second with four wins.
Italy ran them close too, eventually losing by a mere seven runs while they lost to the eventual tournament winners, Scotland.
This will be Ireland’s seventh appearance in T20 World Cup having played in each of the editions barring the first one.

The big question here is around the pitch. This was the same one in which Sri Lanka were bowled out for 77 and South Africa took their own sweet time to get close to the total.
It was on the slowish side and by the end one knew a score of 120-130 would have been a defendable total.
Which is what could level things out between the two teams and make the encounter that much more interesting for the neutral.
India have played a warm-up game on this pitch and in that it was Rishabh Pant was the only batter who got a bit of a hold of the surface. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya also featured in cameos there which should hold them in a good stead.
The problem for Ireland is they are more used to conditions in which the ball nips around a bit but comes on to the bat. That could be a big issue here.
