SA T20 Format
Each of the six teams will face off against the other five sides in the tournament on a home-and-away basis in a round-robin format. That will make it 30 matches during the league stage of the competition. The top four sides at the end of this league stage of the SA T20 will then make the playoffs.
The playoffs were a direct knock-out last season but from this year, there will be an extra match involved during that stage. This will allow the teams ranked first and second an extra chance to compete.
In the first Qualifier, the teams ranked first and second will face off to decide one of the finalists. Teams ranked third and fourth will play each other in an Eliminator with the winner of this encounter taking on the loser of the first Qualifier in what will constitute the second Qualifier.
The winner of the second Qualifier will make the final too. These four matches will be played on February 6, 7, 8 and 10. The full squad and schedule of Betway SA20 2024 are placed above.

Have there been previous T20 tournaments played in South Africa?
Before the inception of the SA T20, there were multiple attempts made to bring in a franchise-based T20 competition to South Africa but there were a lot of struggles around it. Just before this, a Mzansi Super League was played between 2018 and 2019 before it was cancelled.
The South African cricket board had also tried to kick-start the T20 Global League but had been unsuccessful.
