What Have The Two Teams Done So Far?
There hasn’t been too much to write home about from these two sides with both having won one match – Mumbai have played four and Bangalore are on five games.
Neither team will want to face the ignominy of another loss but the fact is that one of them will lose and that could spell the beginning of their end in this year’s IPL.
Quick MI vs RCB Preview
Mumbai Indians looked to have turned things around in their previous game when they took down Delhi Capitals to register their first win of the tournament.
There was a lot less booing of Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai captain, but that could be attributed to the influx of a lot of school kids for this encounter as a part of the owners’ CSR.
What they did take away from the win was that their batting is still a much-vaunted one, led by Rohit Sharma’s 49, and Romario Shepherd and Tim David’s finishing prowess.
It’s their bowling, however, that Mumbai Indians will need to find a turnaround with a continuously leaky effort. Jasprit Bumrah aside, no bowler has conceded less than eight an over with some of the top guns like Gerald Coetzee, Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla even going for over 10 an over.
Speaking of troubling bowling stats and Royal Challengers Bangalore aren’t too far behind. Their problems are then compounded by the lack of batting support for Virat Kohli at the top of the order.
Kohli has 316 runs to his name with the next best batter in the entire tournament having scored 191. What about the next best RCB batter?
It’s Faf du Plessis with a mere 109 runs.
What Bangalore need, for starters, is for at least one of their suits, batting or bowling to fire all cylinders. And for that, they need a mindset shift in the manner in which they are approaching this – batting, bowling and selection.
