The Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium was renamed the Arun Jaitley Stadium in September 2019 after the death of the former Delta & Delhi Cricket Association (DDCA) president of the same name. However, many people still refer to the stadium by its old name.

The Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium is located on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in New Delhi. It was named after the fortress of the same name which stood in and around the area in 1354, and of which some structures still stand to this day. In 1883, a portion of the grounds was converted into a cricket ground which is where the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium stands today.

The stadium is known to be amongst the oldest cricket stadiums in India, with the first test match held between India and the West Indies way back in November of 1948. The Kotla has since played host to several test matches, three ODI Cricket World Cups and several ICC World Twenty20 matches.

The Delhi Capitals, formerly known as the Delhi Daredevils of the Indian Premier League, as well as the Delhi cricket team, call the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium their home grounds. Team India, the Indian national cricket team, has been known to play at the stadium as well.

The online process is more convenient, allowing seat selection and digital payment, with the option for home delivery of tickets. Tickets for Delhi Capitals home matches can also be purchased offline at Arun Jaitley Stadium at the stadium’s ticket counter. The box office operates from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on days without a match, and from 10:00 am until the match concludes on match days.

Offline match tickets are also available at multiple outlets throughout the city, including Cafe Coffee Day and selected metro stations. The starting price for tickets is Rs. 850.

Boasting an official total seating capacity of 41,820, the Kolta has three wings. There are a total of fifteen gates that can be located in the stadium, seven on the southern end and eight on the eastern end.

Both the East and West Wing have three tiers while the North Wing has four. The East Wing can seat approximately 17,000 people, the West Wing around 11,000 people, and the North Wing has around a 6,000-person seating capacity.

Aside from these, the stadium also has the New Pavilion with a 2,200 and 2,500-person seating capacity, and the Old Pavilion which can serve around 2,000 people, although some areas are reserved for media and BCCI personnel, and other VIPs.

The Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium can be best reached by those not driving their vehicles or taking cabs by riding a bus from the New Delhi Metro Station. The nearest metro stations are ITO, Pragati Maidan, and Mandi House. The Kotla is about 18 kilometres away from the airport.

Notable Events at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium

Some of the biggest matches that were held in the stadium include the 2011 Cricket World Cup where the highest ODI total on the ground (330/8) was recorded. This was done by the West Indies team against the Netherlands. On that note, so far eight batsmen have scored ODI centuries on the grounds.

The Kotla was also witness to 10 wickets in an innings performance by Anil Kumble against Pakistan in 1999. The stadium has also witnessed 10 wins out of 18 test matches from India, the most from any team that has played in the area. It was also here that Bangladesh got their first-ever victory against India under the T20I format in what was coincidentally the 1,000 Twenty20 International match which was held in 2019.

The Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, which is now called the Arun Jaitley Stadium is located at the Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in New Delhi. If you are in Delhi, you can use any of the following local commute options to get to the Arun Jaitley Stadium:

The best way to get to the stadium is to take a Violet Line metro to Delhi Gate and then walk to the stadium. This is about 500 meters away if you walk and will take about 5-10 minutes to get there. The one point to remember is that if you are going for a match, it could take slightly more time because of the sheer volume of fans going in the same direction so please plan accordingly.

On match days, it would make more sense to take public transport rather than drive down to the stadium because of the traffic snarls. Parking could also be a concern.
