With Sri Lanka and Bangladesh having struggled at the international level in recent times, it’s no surprise that not too many of those players have been picked up for the 2024 Indian Premier League.
Here’s a list of all the Sri Lanka and Bangladesh players who will take part in the 2024 Indian Premier League.
Player Name | Country | Team Name |
---|---|---|
Mustafizur Rahman | Bangladesh | Chennai Super Kings |
Maheesh Theekshana | Sri Lanka | Chennai Super Kings |
Matheesha Pathirana | Sri Lanka | Chennai Super Kings |
Wanindu Hasaranga | Sri Lanka | Sunrisers Hyderabad |
Nuwan Thushara | Sri Lanka | Mumbai Indians |
Dilshan Madushanka | Sri Lanka | Mumbai Indians |
Chennai Super Kings retained two Sri Lankan players from the previous season, mystery spinner Maheesh Theekhshana and seam bowler Matheesha Pathirana. They will hope the two remain fit for the entire season given their capabilities with the ball.
The three other players from Sri Lanka who were picked during the IPL 2024 Auction were leg-spinning all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka and slinger pacer Nuwan Thushara.
While it was surprising to see Hasaranga get selected in the auction for just his base price of INR 1.5 crore, Sunrisers Hyderabad would have been super pleased with that outcome.
Madushanka and Thushara were selected by Mumbai Indians and both, after a prolonged bidding battle. While neither came close to the kind of sums paid for Mitchell Starc or Pat Cummins, Mumbai Indians paid INR 4.6 and 4.8 crore respectively for these two players despite having begun at a base price of INR 50 lakh.
Kusal Mendis and Dushmantha Chameera went unsold.
Speaking of Bangladesh, the only player who made it through the auction this season was Mustafizur Rahman. The left-arm speedster was picked at his base price of INR 2 crore by Chennai Super Kings.
No other Bangladesh player was retained by any team from the previous season.
