Brabourne Stadium is one of the oldest cricket grounds in India, having been established in 1937 and a ton of international matches were played here before the advent of Wankhede Stadium.
Wankhede Stadium was built a stone’s throw from Brabourne, following a dispute between the Mumbai Cricket Association and Brabourne Stadium. Following this, most of international cricket has been played at Wankhede Stadium but this doesn’t mean that Brabourne Stadium isn’t used for any cricket.

Notable Events at the Brabourne Stadium
In fact, in more recent times, even international cricket has returned to this stadium with a few of the 2006 Champions Trophy games hosted here. The first ever Twenty20 International hosted in India came at this ground in 2007, immediately after India’s title win at the 2007 T20 World Cup.
Later in 2009, Sri Lanka played a Test match at Brabourne Stadium against the hosts India, 36 years after it had last hosted one in 1973.
When it comes to domestic cricket, Brabourne Stadium has hosted the Mumbai team in Ranji Trophy and List A and T20 levels, other than having played hosts for the Mumbai Indians as well. Some of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2013 matches have been played at Brabourne Stadium as well, most notably the 2014 game in the playoffs between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
Rajasthan Royals have played a few of their home games at Brabourne Stadium as well.
Owned by the Cricket Club of India or CCI as it’s called, Brabourne Stadium had earlier been the home for the BCCI and also been one for the 1983 World Cup trophy. It’s currently kept at Wankhede Stadium.
How to get to Brabourne Stadium Address by Bus, Metro or Train?
Interestingly, there is no difference between getting to Wankhede Stadium and Brabourne Stadium because of their proximity to each other. If you are taking a local train, a simple right turn after getting out of the station will take you to Wankhede Stadium and a left will take you to Brabourne Stadium with just a five-minute walk
In essence, you need to get off at the Churchgate station on the Western Line, Mumbai railways. Not surprisingly, you will need to ensure you plan early for match days because it could take more time than usual
The Mumbai airport is a fair distance away from this stadium and you could take an hour and a half to get here by road. If you do not have a lot of luggage, you can look to take a cab to the Andheri train station from the Mumbai Airport and then board a train from there to Churchgate.
If your outstation train is arriving in Mumbai at the Mumbai Central Station, you can cab it down to the Wankhede Stadium in less than 20 minutes.
