We are yet to see the first edition of the Euro T20 Slam kick-start but there are hopes that in 2024 there might be a tournament played under its auspices.
History of Euro T20 Slam
The Euro T20 Slam was first expected to be played in 2019 but was postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, it hasn’t seen the light of day as the cricket boards of Scotland, Ireland and Netherlands have failed to get this project off the ground.
Its first season was to be held between August 30 and September 22, 2019, with the six teams featuring in a home and away league that lasted 33 matches.
The teams that were supposed to take part in the inaugural season of the tournament were to belong to the following cities:
Ireland: Belfast and Dublin,
Scotland: Glasgow and Edinburgh
Netherlands: Amsterdam and Rotterdam
The schedule was released on April 19 with the likes of Shahid Afridi, Rashid Khan, Martin Guptill, Eoin Morgan, Brendon McCullum, Babar Azam, Shane Watson, JP Duminy, Luke Ronchi, Chris Lynn, Dale Steyn and Imran Tahir expected to take part.
Euro T20 Slam Squads
We are awaiting more information on the latest squads for the Euro T20 Slam. They will be released closer to the start of the competition.
Euro T20 Slam Schedule
When will the Euro T20 Slam be played? After the proposed 2019 start did not go on as planned, there was a proposal to kick-start the competition in August 2020 and all the matches to be played in Malahide in Ireland. This plan was scrapped and replaced with a 2021 launch before it was postponed to 2023 and now to 2024.
It has been said that the Euro T20 Slam will be played in 2024.
Euro T20 Slam Format
We are still awaiting information on how the 2024 edition will be played but when it was conceptualised, all the six teams were expected to play the other five sides in the competition on a home and away basis. That made it 10 matches per team and a total of 30 matches in the group stages of the competition.
The top four sides were then expected to feature in the semifinals and that was to be followed by the final.
