What Have The Two Teams Done So Far?
India’s path to the Super Eights qualification was filled with a game against Pakistan, a difficult set of pitches and a resurgent USA team that stunned a few around with their cricket.
As it turned out, India managed to get their combination right for the nature of those surfaces, edge out Pakistan in a low-scoring thriller and overcame Ireland and USA despite facing difficulties to top their group.
Afghanistan stunned New Zealand in their opener, which went a long way in bundling them out of the competition. They eased past Papua New Guinea and Uganda after that before West Indies shredded them to pieces in that final, inconsequential league game.

However, there are two mitigating factors to consider.
For starters, never has Afghanistan played this well in a T20 World Cup and if their performance in the last ODI World Cup was any indication they look to be showing the kind of resilience that Sri Lanka had done in the lead-up to their 1996 World Cup victory.
The other factor is India’s performances have come on bowling friendly pitches of USA and they will be playing their first match of this tournament in West Indies.
Bridgetown in Barbados, the venue for this game, has hosted a few games and the surfaces here have been way better than those on show in New York and Florida. And by better we mean there has been a lot more balance to it with the batters having had a chance to excel as well.
This will bring the quality of bowling to the fore and while India has Jaspreet Bumrah, they will need to get less defensive and play Kuldeep Yadav too instead of one of Axar Patel or Ravindra Jadeja.
Afghanistan have their bowling sorted but the manner in which their best bowler of the tournament Fazalhaq Farooqi was carted by the Windies batters, it could be warning signs for them.
