What Have The Two Teams Done So Far?
The only two unbeaten teams in the competition, India and South Africa are in the final and one will have to say, deservedly so.
India’s game against Canada was washed out but other than that they have won them all. Ireland, Pakistan and USA were beaten in the first round, while in the Super Eights they got the better of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia.
In the semifinals, India routed England on a slow pitch to seal off their first T20 World Cup berth since 2014.
South Africa had a rocky first round run, edging past the likes of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands and Nepal. They could well have lost to Bangladesh and Nepal there.
In the Super Eights, South Africa began with a tight win over USA, edged out England before making it through to the semifinal with a victory in a virtual quarterfinal against West Indies.
They overcame a lacklustre Afghanistan in the semis.

South Africa have often been associated with the word, chokers.
Whether or not it’s the real representation of their cricket in ICC events over the years is a matter of debate. It must be added very quickly though that for a team that hasn’t won an ICC event since 2013 despite all their resources, India have not been in a very different boat from the Proteas.
Losing in the final in the 2014 T20 World Cup and then again in the title-decider against Pakistan in the 2017 Champions Trophy along with the 2023 World Cup final loss would have made Indian fans quite wary.
South Africa’s biggest strength on these pitches has been their bowling and they have hunted well in packs. Their batting has struggled though because of the kind of batters they have brought with them.
That’s been the problem for almost all teams in this tournament but India looked to have solved that issue by being able to change their mindset.
Even for a legend like Virat Kohli – who is known to score runs the way he always does – to buy into the team’s changing outlook. He has done his best to play an attacking game and while he hasn’t succeeded it has helped the others to take on that gauntlet from him and Rohit Sharma.
Expecting the same from them again but this time around it will be against a team with a bowling attack that will extract anything they might get from the surface.
It could turn out to be a battle for the ages.
