What Have The Two Teams Done Recently?
New Zealand
New Zealand were coming into this series with the kind of confidence that no other team has had in more than 12 years. Because they became the first team in 12 years to win a series in India.
Not just that, New Zealand were coming off a 2-0 rout at the hands of Sri Lanka and then turned it around to win 3-0 against the mighty Indians.
That win had given them the fourth spot on the WTC 2023-25 points table but they are now sixth following successive defeats in the opening two Tests to England.
England
England have had a very up and down time in Tests recently with the ups having come at home and the downs having been away.
They beat West Indies 3-0 and clinched a 2-1 series victory against Sri Lanka at home but these results were sandwiched by a 4-1 loss to India and a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Pakistan away.
What that meant was that England were all but out of the reckoning for a place in the final of the WTC. A victory in the first two Tests here pushed them up to fifth on the table and they will need to win them all and hope for some other results to go their way to make the final.

New Zealand vs England 3rd Test Preview & Predictions with Latest Odds*
The manner in which England have gone about their business in this series it looks like they are on a mission. A mission to turn things around in Tests as well.
Because while they have now been known to play the Bazball brand of cricket for a while, they have only recently started winning matches more regularly. They grabbed all but one of their home season, and while they went down to Pakistan 2-1 away, their performance in the first two Tests here has been something to behold.
Wins by eight wickets and 323 runs for England have left the hosts with a lot to do and the biggest solution they need to find is to try and get Harry Brook and Joe Root out quickly. Especially Brook.
Such has been his domination that Brook’s 349 is a good way away from the second-best batter in the series, Kane Williamson (195 runs). And when you add Brydon Carse’s 16 wickets being the table-topper ahead of Matt Henry, you know how drastically one-sided this series has been.
England will look to press their throats on the New Zealand throats here.
