Quick RR vs LSG Preview
In a recent podcast with Sky Sports experts Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain, Rajasthan Royals owner Manoj Badale seemed to have underscored that the team did not get as much credit as they deserved despite having won a title and after having made the final of the 2022 edition of the tournament.
That might be true but there hasn’t been too much doubt that the Royals have underperformed with just five overall playoffs appearances since the time of inception.
The good news for Rajasthan this time is that under Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, the squad consists of players who can win matches on their own. While Prasidh Krishna might have been ruled out of the tournament, they have the batting firepower to crush the opposition dreams.
Speaking of the opposition, the Lucknow Super Giants is one of the two youngest teams in the IPL, having first played in 2022. They have a solid core of players and in Justin Langer, have a coach of international repute after his stint with the Aussie team.
With batters like KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran and the bowling bolstered by the selection of Shamar Joseph, along side Ravi Bishnoi, Shivam Mavi and Mohsin Khan, Lucknow is a team to fear.
What Have The Two Teams Done So Far?
Rajasthan’s performances in the IPL have left a lot to desire with the team having done nothing of note other than their title win in 2008 and a finals showing in 2022. In fact, over the last five seasons, the Royals have made the playoffs just once.
Lucknow Super Giants, who lost Gautam Gambhir as their mentor, have made the playoffs both times they have played having made their debut in the 2022 edition. They finished third in both tournaments, losing in the Eliminator.
Interesting RR vs LSG Stats
- RR vs LSG Head-to-head: They have faced off three times in IPL history and Lucknow leads 2-1 on head to head.
- In their only match played at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Lucknow had edged out Rajasthan by 10 runs despite a rollicking 87-run stand for the first wicket between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler.
- Sanju Samson and Buttler have been RR’s most prolific batters having scored 3000+ and 2500+ runs apiece. And given they will continue to be with the team make it a pretty experienced batting side.
- KL Rahul’s 890 runs for Lucknow is the most by any batsman for this team but what’s interesting to note is that their second-best bowler Avesh Khan, was traded to Rajasthan before the start of this season.
- .Rajasthan will miss Jofra Archer obviously but they do have Yuzvendra Chahal whose 48 wickets is the most any bowler has taken for this side in a long, long time (Sid Trivedi, Shane Warne and Shane Watson have all got 50+ wickets for the Royals)
