Built in 2005, it was supposed to be called the Visakha International Cricket Stadium but was changed to its current name at the eleventh hour. Former Hyderabad and India batsman VVS Laxman has an end named after him at this ground as an honour.
Back in 2009, Sachin Tendulkar had hit an individual best of 175 at this stadium in an ODI against Australia. It was a match which India went on to narrowly lose in heart-breaking circumstances. Later in 2023, Shubham Gill would break that record with a double-century against New Zealand.

The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium is located in Uppal in Hyderabad and there are multiple ways to get to the stadium.
If you are opting to take the metro, then the Stadium Metro Station on the Blue Line is the best place to get off. This is a three-minute walk from the Uppal Stadium in Hyderabad.
If you are coming from outside of the city and have taken a train that reaches the Begumpet Station – one of the biggest stations in Hyderabad – then you can take a cab from there to the stadium. It will take you about 30 minutes to get there.
The other railway station to get off is the Secunderabad Station which is a lot closer to this stadium. You will need only 15 minutes to reach here by cab or you could take the aforementioned Metro to the Stadium stop.
The Hyderabad airport is about 33 km away from the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium and the best way to land in the city and reach the stadium is to take a cab. It will take you about 50 minutes at best.
