The Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur first hosted an international game in 1983 and since then has become a regular on the international scene. Over time it has hosted the Rajasthan team in the first-class, List A and T20 competitions in India before it was made even more famous by becoming the home stadium for the IPL team of Rajasthan Royals.
Rajasthan Royals play most of their home games at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, this has been the case since the start of the first-ever edition of the IPL. In the lead-up to the 2008 IPL, the Sawai Mansingh Stadium underwent changes which included a cricket academy that took INR 7 crore to build. A gym, 2 conference halls, a restaurant and a swimming pool along with new media rooms and galleries became a part of this stadium after the renovation – all of this thanks to the leadership of Lalit Modi, who would later go on to kick-start the Indian Premier League.
Rather interestingly, Mumbai Indians have also used the Sawai Mansingh Stadium as their home ground for one season of the Indian Premier League.
