Other than Australia, the one team that will see a few representations at this year’s Indian Premier League is South Africa. Having dished out an excellent performance at the 2023 World Cup, quite a few of the South African players made it to the IPL squads for the season.

11 of the South African players featured in this year’s IPL have been retained from the previous season.
In this list are three Sunrisers Hyderabad players, which include three of the best from the 2023 World Cup. All-rounder Marco Jansen is more of a Test-match all-rounder but has begun to do well in the shorter formats as well.
Also stunning the fans with his performance at the top of the order at the World Cup was Aiden Markram but the biggest surprise of them all was Heinrich Klaasen who was deemed to be the best player of spin bowling in the middle-order in that tournament.
Quinton de Kock announced his retirement from ODI cricket but will continue to ply his trade at Lucknow Super Giants while fast bowlers Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi will share the bowling duties at Delhi Capitals.
Punjab Kings retained one of the best fast bowlers in the world in the form of Kagiso Rabada while Gujarat Titans opted to hold on to one of the best T20 players around in the form of David Miller.
Faf du Plessis, Donovan Ferreira and Dewald Brevis are the three other players who will continue to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians respectively.
When it came to the players bought at this year’s auction, four new ones came into team line-ups.
Nandre Burger was bought by Rajasthan Royals at his base price of INR 50 lakhs but the big question will be his adjustment to Indian tracks after having played all his cricket on seaming and helping South African pitches.
The other South African player who went at his base price was Tristan Stubbs, who was bought for INR 50 lakhs by Delhi Capitals.
Where things changed at the auctions when Punjab Kings went into a bidding war with the other teams before claiming the rights for Rilee Rossouw. He cost the Kings a whopping INR 8 crore.
The other player who made it to the Mumbai Indians squad was all-rounder Gerald Coetzee. Going into the auction for a base price of INR 2 crore, he was picked up by the five-time champions for INR 5 crore.
