Super Smash is a T20 league hosted by NZC at various venues in New Zealand. It will be played for the 20th time in the 2024-25 season, making it one of the oldest T20 cricket leagues in the world.

Auckland Aces clinched their fifth title at the domestic T20 level when they defeated Canterbury Kings in the final 2023-24 edition of the Super Smash T20.
In doing so, the Aces stopped Northern Brave, the T20 side representing the Northern Districts in New Zealand, from making it three tournament wins in a row.
That was Northern DIstricts’ fourth title in the Super Smash T20 competitions, which they had won in 2022-23 by defeating Canterbury Kings in the final.
Speaking of the Canterbury Kings, they are the least successful side in the competition regarding tournament wins. They have just one title to their name having reached the final seven times including in the 2023-24 season.
The Central Stags have made the final on six occasions and won it thrice but the tournament’s most successful side is Auckland Aces with five titles.
Wellington Firebirds have claimed the title four times, while Otago Volts have won the Super Smash T20 two times and finished runner-up thrice.

How will the Super Smash T20 be played this year?
The aforementioned six teams will face off in a double-leg round-robin league, with each side playing 10 games during the tournament. At the end of the season, the top three sides will advance to the playoffs.
The team finishing at the top of the league will make the final while teams ranked second and third will face off in an Elimination Final (or a semifinal). The winner of this game will enter the title decider to play the top-ranked side.
This allows teams to overcome slow starts to the competition and still finish in the top three of the points table, giving them a shot at winning the title.
