Super Smash is a T20 league that’s hosted by NZC at various venues in New Zealand and in the 2024-25 season, it will be the 20th time that it will be played – making it one of the oldest T20 cricket leagues in the world.

Previous Super Smash Results & Winners
Northern Brave, the T20 side representing the Northern Districts in New Zealand, enter this year’s as two-time defending champions.
They had defeated Canterbury Kings by 56 runs in the 2021-22 final before crushing the same team by seven wickets and with two overs to spare last year to lift the trophy yet again. That made it their fourth overall title in the Super Smash.
Speaking of the Canterbury Kings, they are the least successful side in the competition as far as tournament wins are concerned. They have just one title to their name having reached the final six times – one of three sides to have done it that many times.
The Central Stags have also made the final on six occasions and won it thrice but the tournament’s most successful side is Auckland Aces.
The Aces, much like Northern Brave and Wellington Firebirds have claimed the title four times but to go with that, they have also reached the title-decider on four other occasions.
Otago Volts have won the Super Smash T20 two times while having finished runner-up thrice.

How will the Super Smash T20 be played this year?
The aforementioned six teams will face off in a double-leg round-robin league with each of the sides featuring in 10 games during the tournament. At the end of the season, the top three sides will make it to the playoffs.
The team finishing at the top of the league will make the final while teams ranked second and third will face off in an Elimination Final (or a semifinal). The winner of this game will enter the title decider to play the top-ranked side.
This allows teams to overcome slow starts to the competition and still finish in the top three of the points table, in turn giving them a shot to win the title.
