What Have The Two Teams Done So Far?
USA made it to the tournament as hosts, thereby not having to play the Qualifiers to enter the tournament. On the other hand, Canada was part of a four-team group in the 2023 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier & Regional Final and edged out Bermuda on net run rate to make it through to the main tournament.
This will be the first time that both the USA and Canada will be featuring in a T20 World Cup, although the latter have made their appearances in the 50-over World Cups in the past.

While hosts USA might not have come through the qualifying route, they have shown what they are capable of in recent times. They enter this tournament on the back of a year in which they have played seven T20Is against Canada (see head-to-head section below) and Bangladesh and won six of them.
Beating Canada was an achievement by itself but for to then overturn the Bangladeshi boat and win that three-match T20I series 2-1 would have been their most joyous cricketing occasion ever.
And USA have a long, if chequered, history of playing cricket, having featured in the first-ever international ever played more than 150 years ago.
The Monank Patel-led USA side was helped by the experience of Steven Taylor and the hard-hitting capabilities of Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh in the first game, while Taylor, Patel and Ali Khan combined in the second to grab those two wins.
On the other hand, Canada last won a T20I in October 2023 but that was also the game that helped them qualify for this tournament.
Going into that encounter against Bermuda needing to win to make it through to the main draw here, Canada was restricted to 132/4 from their 18 overs thanks to Navneet Dhaliwal’s knock of 45.
Kaleem Sana then bowled a spell of his career, finishing with figures of 3/4 in 3.5 overs to bowl Bermuda out for 93.
Dhaliwal is Canada’s most experienced batter having scored 870 runs while Aaron Johnson has 713 T20I runs. Captain Saad Bin Zafar and Dilon Heyliger would be the bowlers to watch out.
