What Have The Two Teams Done Recently?
West Indies
West Indies were on a white-ball tour of Sri Lanka in October in which they played three ODIs and three T20Is apiece against the hosts. They lost both the series 2-1.
They ended that Sri Lanka tour with a win in the final ODI, which in turn stalled a five-match losing streak in this format that had also seen them lose 3-0 to Australia earlier this year. In fact the last time they won an ODI before that Sri Lanka victory was against England itself.
They had won that series against England 2-1.
England
England featured in a five-match ODI series against Australia in which they came back from 0-2 down to level it at 2-2. They fell to a 49-run defeat in the final game to finish on a 2-3 losing note.
That had been their first ODI series since their 2-1 defeat to West Indies late last year which was also just the second such series since the 2023 World Cup.

West Indies vs England 1st T20I Preview & Predictions with Latest Odds*
Life hasn’t been too easy for West Indies as far as ODI cricket is concerned. This has been on display for a few years but matters have really come to a head with the West Indies side missing out on playing in the 2023 ODI World Cup and as a result won’t be a part of the Champions Trophy that will be played next year.
What they now need to do is to remain in the top 10 of the ICC ODI Rankings in a bid to make a direct entry into the 2027 ODI World Cup. Currently they are 10th on that table.
They will be up against England, who had entered the 2023 World Cup as defending champions and joint-favourites but crashed out in spectacular fashion from the tournament. They also need a turnaround and under new ODI coach Brendon McCullum, that would be something at the top of their list of to-do things.
In the absence of the still-injured Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone will lead the line-up and while winning these matches will be high priority they would also like to get some of their younger, lesser experienced players some more game time coming into this series.
Still backing England to start things off with a win.
