What is the Women’s East Asia Cup 2025? The Women’s East Asia Cup is a T20 competition which is held in Asia and contested by women’s teams from East Asia each year. In 2024, it completed six years of being played and if it’s played in 2025, it would be its seventh edition.
In previous seasons, China, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea have been some of the regulars with a few exceptions. Like for instance, in 2023, South Korea opted out of the competition while in 2022 only Hong Kong and Japan had participated in a four-match series.
The 2024 edition of the Women’s East Asia Cup was the first in which five teams took part with Mongolia making their debut in the tournament. This tournament was hosted at Yeonhui Cricket Ground in Incheon, South Korea.
Each of the teams in this tournament this year will face off against the remaining four sides and at the end of the league stage of the competition, the top two sides will contest in the final. There will also be a playoff for the third spot between the teams finishing third and fourth on the points table.

For 2024, there was no set qualification process for the Women’s East Asia Cup other than the fact that the teams should be from Eastern Asia. This year, for instance, Mongolia are making their debut in this tournament.
What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the Women’s East Asia Cup?
Hong Kong won the title for the fourth time after beating Japan Women by 10 wickets in the final.
Japan struggled through to 108/6 in their 20 overs before Mariko Hill’s innings of unbeaten 48 saw her side through to a win.
This was after Hong Kong Women had finished on the top of the points table with four wins while Japan clinched three wins to finish second. China and South Korea ended third and fourth in the competition.
What Happened in the 2023 Edition of the Women’s East Asia Cup?
Hong Kong became the third time winner of the Women’s East Asia Cup in 2023 when they defeated China in a hard-fought final.
Batting first China Women managed only 72, getting bowled out in 17 overs. In response, Hong Kong struggled through to the total, finishing on 72/9 in their 20 overs, making it the lowest aggregate in a T20I game between China Women and Hong Kong Women.
Hong Kong Women went on to clinch the title by grabbing the win in the Super Over that followed. Alison Siu’s five-wicket haul and unbeaten 12 won her the player-of-the-match award while Kary Chan clinched the player-of-the-tournament prize.
