Everything about the WPL 2025
What is Women’s Premier League? The Women’s Premier League is a franchise-based women’s T20 tournament played in India. It is played on the lines of the Indian Premier League and has seen solid growth over the short time it has been around.
The 2025 edition of the Women’s Premier League is the third year of the tournament having first been played in 2023.
Like the previous season, the 2025 Women’s Premier League is expected to see a total of five teams participate in the competition with each of the sides facing off the other four teams on two occasions.
While the previous tournament was played at two venues only – Delhi and Bengaluru – it will be interesting to see whether there is any change in the format on that front.
The tournament can be expected to held on the lines of the IPL with each team playing at home and away, making it eight matches for each of the sides during the league stage of the competition.
The team ranked at the top of the points table at the end of the group stage will make it to the final while the teams ranked second and third will face off in an Eliminator to decide the second finalist.
This schedule for the 2025 Women’s Premier League will be released soon.
Last year, the players captaining the five sides were Meg Lanning, Beth Mooney, Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana and Alyssa Healy. The WPL 2024 auction was held late last year which helped the picking up of the five teams.

What Happened in the 2024 WPL?
Royal Challengers Bangalore scraped through to the playoffs and then won successive matches to clinch their maiden title at the WPL.
Inspired by some solid performances from Ellyse Perry, Royal Challengers Bangalore won successive matches against Mumbai Indians – in the last league match and the Eliminator – to make it to the final.
And then in the decider, Bangalore easily trumped Delhi Capitals to notch up their maiden title.
After triggering a Delhi collapse which saw them collapse from 64/0 to 113 all out, Bangalore coasted to an eight-wicket win with three balls to spare.
Sophie Molineux won the player-of-the-match award in the final for her 3/20 while Shreyanka Patil grabbed a four-fer for her team.
UP Warriorz’s Deepti Sharma was declared the player-of-the-tournament for her fine all-round showing.
What Happened in the 2023 WPL?
Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians finished with six wins apiece from their respective eight matches during the league stage. However, it was Delhi who topped the table because of a slightly better net run-rate (+1.86 to +1.71) and made a direct entry into the final.
Mumbai Indians took on the third-placed UP Warriorz in the Eliminator on March 24, 2023. In the process, Mumbai thumped UP by 72 runs thanks to a 38-ball 72 off the bat of Nat Scriver-Brunt and a four-wicket haul for Issy Wong.
Moving on to the final, Mumbai Indians did not have a lot of trouble getting past the Delhi Capitals side either.
First up, it was Hayley Matthews whose figures of 3/5 from four overs restricted Delhi to 131/9 from their 20 overs. This was followed by Scriver-Brunt blasting another unbeaten 60 to help them win by seven wickets with less than an over to spare.
