Everything about the Women’s T20 Blaze
The T20 Blaze is the official West Indian women’s T20 tournament that is played on an annual basis.
Having first been featured in 2012, it has now been played over seven editions with the 2024 tournament being the eighth. This is because there were no tournaments in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2020 and 2021 (the last two because of the pandemic).
In its initial editions, the West Indies T20 Blaze had eight teams but in more recent times this has changed to six. Teams participating in the 2024 tournament included:
- Barbados
- Guyana
- Jamaica
- Leeward Islands
- Trinidad & Tobago
- Windward Islands
Each of the teams in the tournament faces the others once, making it five games apiece for every contestant. At the end of the 15 league stage matches, the team finishing at the top of the points table is awarded the title.

What Happened in the 2024 Women’s T20 Blaze?
The 2024 edition of the Women’s T20 Blaze was won by Jamaica with some ease. Unlike most of the other T20 tournaments in the world, the T20 Blaze doesn’t have a knockout or a playoffs stage and the team topping the group stage is declared the winner.
That’s where Jamaica scored over all the other sides, winning all five of their group games to finish top of the table with 20 points. The next best was Guyana who won three of their five matches.
Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados and Leeward Islands ended with eight points apiece.
What was so interesting about Jamaica’s win was they won all their five games batting second with none of those chases going to the final over.
What Happened in the 2023 Women’s T20 Blaze?
Barbados were declared the champions at the 2023 Women’s T20 Blaze after they finished on the top of the points table at the end of the regular season with 16 points.
What was interesting to note was that Barbados had a net run-rate of -0.046 thanks to a crushing defeat at the hands of Trinidad & Tobago in which their opponent reached their target with 7.3 overs to spare.
However, Guyana, who also had 16 points and a better net run rate, were relegated to the second spot based on their head-to-head – i.e. Barbados had defeated Guyana by three wickets in a low-scoring thriller.
The Windward Islands had 12 points, Jamaica finished on eight which was the same as Trinidad & Tobago while the Leeward Islands lost all their matches.
