While New Zealand isn’t as well-represented at the 2024 IPL as Australia and South Africa, it still has a few stars who will feature in this year’s competition.
Here’s a list of all the New Zealand players who will take part in the 2024 Indian Premier League.
Player Name | Team Name |
---|---|
Kane Williamson | Gujarat Titans |
Devon Conway | Chennai Super Kings |
Mitchell Santner | Chennai Super Kings |
Daryl Mitchell | Chennai Super Kings |
Rachin Ravindra | Chennai Super Kings |
Trent Boult | Rajasthan Royals |
Glenn Phillips | Sunrisers Hyderabad |
Lockie Ferguson | Royal Challengers Bangalore |
Of the eight New Zealand players who will feature in the 2024 Indian Premier League, five were retained from the previous season and three were picked during the IPL Auction held in December 2023.
Two of these were retained by the Chennai Super Kings, namely left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner and opening batter and hard-hitter Devon Conway.
Gujarat Titans continued to hold on to Kane Williamson, who had injured himself and missed the previous IPL season while Glenn Phillips and Trent Boult will continue to ply their trade for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals respectively.
The three players who were picked by IPL teams this season were spin all-rounder Rachin Ravindra, aggressive middle-order batter Daryl Mitchell and pace bowler Lockie Ferguson.
Ravindra, who was picked in the New Zealand XI as a replacement for Kane Williamson at the 2023 World Cup and went on to carve out a name for himself, was picked up by the Super Kings.
In fact, despite going for INR 1.8 crore after starting at a base price of INR 50 lakh, he was one of the surprisingly low-priced picks of the auction this season.
Chennai also went for Mitchell, with his excellent performances in the middle-order helping him garner a whopping INR 14 crore after starting at a base price of INR 1 crore. What would have aided Mitchell’s cause is his ability to bowl his brand of medium-pace.
Strangely, Ferguson did not have multiple takers which allowed Royal Challengers Bangalore to pick him up at his base price of INR 2 crore. His 150 km/hr thunderbolts will be a necessity for a side struggling for bowling brilliance all these years.
