What Have The Two Teams Done Recently?
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka are coming off a relatively easy couple of wins in the opening two games of this series. They chased down 232 in 31.5 overs out of the 37 available overs in the opening ODI before winning the second game by five wickets as well with 34 balls to spare.
That makes it a fourth win in a row for them on this tour after having grabbed a couple of T20I victories.
Other than that, ODIs haven’t quite been high on the priority list of a lot of teams but Sri Lanka have played have played 12 of them this year and have won nine of them with one game tied. This includes a shock 2-0 series win over the mighty Indian team who had gone into that series as huge favourites.
That’s the most number of ODIs a full member nation has played this year and just second to Canada’s 15.
West Indies
On the other hand, West Indies are at the other end of the spectrum with just five ODIs played in 2024 and they have lost them all. This came as a part of the three-match ODI series which was held in Australia earlier this year and the opening two games of this series.
There’s no doubting West Indies’ fall from the perch in this format with a win-loss of ratio of 0.684 for them since the end of the 2019 World Cup. Only Zimbabwe, among Full Member countries have a worse record than that.
They lost both their opening two games of this series, and two relatively easy defeats as well at the hands of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka vs West Indies 3rd ODI Preview & Predictions with Latest Odds*
Sri Lanka’s spinners have tied the West Indian batters down rather easily and while they have recovered to post a few runs, the chase hasn’t been the most difficult for the home team.
For starters the pitches at Pallekele do tend to be slightly more sticky first up and that has gone against West Indies.
It was amply on display in both the games with West Indies making good recoveries from difficult positions in those two matches. Later, however, with the pitch easing out and with the West Indian spinners not in the same league as their counterparts things have become tougher.
What we would be looking closely at is which team is chasing and based on that, we could opt to go with that team.
