Afghanistan continue to deliver solid results at the international level and the result of that can be seen from the fact that a number of their players have been selected to feature in the Indian Premier League for the 2024 edition.
Here’s the list of all the Afghanistan players who will participate in the 2024 IPL.
Player Name | Team Name |
---|---|
Rahmanullah Gurbaz | Kolkata Knight Riders |
Mujeeb ur Rahman | Kolkata Knight Riders |
Naveen-ul-Haq | Lucknow Super Giants |
Rashid Khan | Gujarat Titans |
Noor Ahmad | Gujarat Titans |
Azmatullah Omarzai | Gujarat Titans |
Mohammad Nabi | Mumbai Indians |
Fazalhaq Farooqi | Sunrisers Hyderabad |
Five of the eight Afghanistan players who will participate in this year’s IPL were retained by their team management.
These include Rashid Khan, who will have a big role to play at Gujarat Titans but at the same time will hope he can get fit in time for the season. Also in this line-up of retained players is Noor Ahmad, who will also feature with the Titans.
Kolkata Knight Riders have retained Rahmanullah Gurbaz, an attacking top-order batter and a keeper who made his name at the 2023 World Cup for Afghanistan.
The two other Afghanistan players retained by their respective teams are fast bowlers Naveen-ul-Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqi.
While Naveen, who recently announced his retirement from ODI cricket, will be a part of the Lucknow Super Giants side – and we hope to see some more of the kind of aggression that was on offer from him last season – Farooqi will turn out for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
At this year’s auction, three more Afghanistan players were picked by respective teams while two remained unsold.
All-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai was brought into the Gujarat Titans line-up for his base price of INR 50 lakhs, a whopping deal for a player who could go on to become a superstar of his country.
Also making it to the Kolkata Knight Riders line-up this season will be Mujeeb-ur-Rahman.
Mujeeb, who has played some extraordinary amounts of cricket around the world in various leagues including the Big Bash League, will be a player to watch out for as he looks to take over the mantle as a mystery spinner from Sunil Narine.
He was also picked for his base price of INR 2 crore.
And then going to Mumbai Indians will be Mohammad Nabi, who is Afghanistan’s most experienced all-rounder by far. The 39-year-old has featured in 369 T20s in his career which is among the top 30 in the list of most matches played.
Mumbai got Nabi in at his base price of INR 1.5 crore.
Waqar Salamkheil and Qais Ahmed did not get a pick in the 2024 IPL Auctions.
