What Have The Two Teams Done Recently?
Australia Women
Overall, Australia Women have a 132-51 win-loss record in this format which gives them the second-best win-loss ratio among Full Member nations in women’s cricket. This consists of three wins in the T20 World Cup against Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Pakistan.
They also enter this competition on the back of seven successive wins in T20I cricket and have now gone 10 matches with a win.
They have won 13 of their last 14 games too, giving them a bit of an invincible cloak with their only loss in 2024 having come at the hands of South Africa in Canberra in January.
India Women
India are 106-82 on win-loss in T20I cricket which is a win-loss ratio of 1.29. While it’s not quite the best in the business, they have also won 14 of their last 19 matches which is a clear indicator they are a team on the rise.
Just prior to this tournament, they featured in the Women’s Asia Cup in which they won four matches in a row to make the final where they were stunned by the Sri Lanka Women.
They started off with a defeat to New Zealand but have come back well to defeat Pakistan and Sri Lanka rather easily.

Quick Australia vs India Women’s T20 World Preview
Australia Women are all but through to the semifinals after they won their third successive game in the tournament. A nine-wicket rout of Pakistan Women which came with nine overs to spare leaves them not just at the top because of the six points they have but also with a net run-rate that’s almost insurmountable.
Sure, they enter this game against a strong India Women side and yes, there are fitness woes that they would have to contend with but Australia Women’s position in the last four shouldn’t cause too many headaches.
They would still want to win and make the semifinals, especially because that would mean India Women could also get eliminated. So while Alyssa Healy and Tayla Vlaeminck are both in doubt for this encounter, Australia Women have more than their fair share of players to replace them.
India, on the other hand, come into this game with two strong performances but not before they had been crushed by New Zealand in their opener.
It might have been a case of needing to adjust to different conditions from what they expected and while some might say they have done that now following victories against Asian giants Pakistan and Sri Lanka, their real test comes now against the might of Australia Women.
The good news for India Women is they would know exactly what they need to do based on the result of the New Zealand v Sri Lanka game. The bad news is that either way, they might need to win this and doing that against Australia is a mountain to climb.
All Eyes On
Harmanpreet Kaur played an innings of substance last game to signal her arrival in the tournament and she would hope to do something similar to what she had against Australia in the 2017 World Cup semifinals. In the absence of Healy, Tahlia McGrath could lead the side and it would be interesting to see if she can be tactically as good.
Australia vs India Head-to-Head Stats
- Overall Australia vs India T20I Head-to-head: On paper this is a one-sided rivalry too, with Australia Women leading India 25-7.
- Things have changed slightly in recent times though what with India having carved out some strong performances and won the odd game but despite that, Australia Women lead 12-1 over the last four years or so, making it one of the worst set of results for any top-level side.
