How is the Under19 World Cup Played? The U19 WC Format

Like the previous edition of this tournament, the 2024 one will also see a total of 16 teams participate in the competition. These 16 teams will be divided into four groups of four apiece with each side playing three group games.

The four groups are as follows:

  • Group A: India, Bangladesh, USA, Ireland
  • Group B: South Africa, England, West Indies, Scotland
  • Group C: Australia, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Namibia
  • Group D: Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Nepal

Where things change is what happens after that.

Till last time, the top two sides at the end of the group stage of the competition used to make it to the Super League quarterfinals while the bottom two teams in each of the groups will make the Plate quarterfinals. This was followed by the semifinals and the final at both, the Super League and Plate level.

This time, in 2024, the top three teams from each of the groups will advance to the Super Six stage. So the top three teams from Group A and D will advance to Group 1 of the Super Six stage while the top three from Group B and C will make Group 2 of the Super Six.

Teams from Group A will then play only teams from Group D (two apiece) and teams from Group B will play teams from Group C in the Super Six stage (two apiece). For example, the team finishing at the top of Group A will face only the teams ending second and third in Group D and so on.

The top two sides in each of the groups at the end of that will face off in the semifinals, which will be followed by the final.
