What Have The Two Teams Done Recently?
Pakistan
There has been an obvious struggle for Pakistan in recent times and if one thought they would turn things around in Test match cricket under Shan Masood, they were in for a shock.
Hosting Bangladesh in a two-match Test series, Pakistan went down 0-2 and then were stunned in the opening Test of this series as well, which made it six successive defeats in this format for them.
England
England entered this series following a home summer in which they had played five Tests against West Indies and Sri Lanka and won 4-1.
Before that, they had an away series in India and while they began well with a win in the first Test, they went down 1-4 after that, progressively struggling to get the better of their opponents.
They crushed Pakistan in the first Test of this series in Multan and set a plethora of records doing so.
Quick Pakistan vs England 2nd Test Preview
The PCB chairman had warned that there could be changes at all levels after the side’s untimely exit at the 2024 T20 World Cup. Now, three successive defeats later, we see a huge announcement made by the selectors as they have opted to drop Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah – the three pillars around whom Pakistan cricket looked to have revolved across all formats.
While Babar’s form in Tests has hit a new nadir every game, the lack of penetration in the bowling of Shaheen and Naseem has been quite telling.
Add that to the murmurs of the divide within the team, it was only a matter of time before this overhaul came.
The other thing that has been making news is the pitch that would be used for this game and it’s going to be the same one that was on offer in the opening Test. That will allow the bowlers a better chance of picking up the wickets and could even things out a tad.
Of course, the kind of win that England registered in the opening game, there would be a lot of scars for Pakistan and to overcome that it would need something special.
Especially come the second innings of the game where Pakistan have generally struggled.
England will welcome Ben Stokes back and rejig their bowling line-up a little. They will look at their spinners as their attacking option while the seamers will hope to maintain the kind of control they are used to.
