Everything about the Ranji Trophy 2024-25
What is the Ranji Trophy 2024-25? One of the oldest domestic tournaments in Asia, the Ranji Trophy is a red ball, first class competition played in India every year. 38 state teams feature in this competition, of which 32 play in the first division.
Eight of these 32 sides make it to the quarterfinals following which they are involved in a knock-out competition. The league games are played over four days apiece while the knock-out matches can last up to five days.
Ranji Trophy acts as a feeder system to India’s Test team.
Which Teams are Participating in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25?
There are two divisions within Ranji Trophy, the Elite Category which has 32 teams playing and the Plate Category which has six teams. The top two teams in the Plate Category at the end of the season will be promoted to the Elite and the bottom two teams from there will be relegated down.
A total of 138 matches will be played in the entire season of Ranji Trophy.

How Did They Qualify for the Ranji Trophy 2024-25?
There are 38 teams in all that play first class domestic cricket in India. 32 of them play in the Elite Division while six play in the second division called the Plate Division.
The top 30 teams from the previous season get a direct entry into the Elite Division for the following year while the bottom two teams from there are relegated to the Plate Division. Similarly, two of the six Plate Division teams from the previous season are promoted to the Elite Division.
What Happened in the Previous Edition of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25?
Mumbai won the title by defeating Vidarbha in what turned out to be a one-sided final. This was their 42nd title victory in this competition, the most by any side, with the second-best being Karnataka/Mysore who have won just eight times.
Bowled out for 224 in the first innings of the final, Mumbai retaliated through Tanush Kotian’s 3/7 to garner a lead of 119 runs. Musheer Khan then ground Vidarbha out with a knock of 136, setting them a task of 538.
Vidarbha put up a bit of a fight but were bowled out for 368 with Kotian grabbing another four wickets.
Earlier, Mumbai had topped their group with five wins from seven games before easing past Baroda and Tamil Nadu in the quarterfinals and semifinals to make the title-decider.
