Everything about the WBBL 2024-25

What is the WBBL? The WBBL stands for the Women’s Big Bash League, a competition which is played at their women’s domestic level in the T20 format. It was introduced following the success of the Big Bash League which was the men’s version of the same competition.

Much like the BBL, eight teams participate in the WBBL as well, which have been mentioned below.

These eight teams feature on a home and away basis, playing once apiece against four teams and twice against three of the other sides. At the end of these 40 league stage matches, the team that finishes at the top of the table gets a direct entry into the final and the team ending second makes the Challenger.

Teams finishing third and fourth face off in a knockout match with the winner then making the Challenger. The team winning the Challenger enters the final.

What Happened in the Previous Edition of the WBBL?

In a closely contested final, Adelaide Strikers edged out Brisbane Heat by three runs to defend their WBBL title having won it in the 2022-23 edition of the competition too.

Adelaide was restricted to 125/5 from their 20 overs but Amanda-Jade Wellington’s 3/16 prevented Brisbane from getting to the target. This included a last over in which Wellington conceded eight runs.

Earlier in the season, Adelaide Strikers had ended at the top of the points table with 22 points from 14 matches while Perth Scorchers were second. Brisbane Heat then defeated Sydney Thunder to make the Challenger before they got past Perth Scorchers to enter the final.
