What Have The Two Teams Done Recently?
West Indies
In what turned out to be a surprise result, West Indies won their opener against England. Not just the win but the manner in which they pumelled the England team would have given them a bit of a boost.
Before that, West Indies were on a white-ball tour of Sri Lanka in October in which they played three ODIs and three T20Is apiece against the hosts. They lost both the series 2-1.
They had ended that Sri Lanka tour with a win in the final ODI, which in turn stalled a five-match losing streak in this format that had also seen them lose 3-0 to Australia earlier this year. In fact the last time they won an ODI before that Sri Lanka victory was against England itself.
They had won that series against England 2-1.
England
England had featured in a five-match ODI series against Australia in which they came back from 0-2 down to level it at 2-2. They fell to a 49-run defeat in the final game to finish on a 2-3 losing note.
That had been their first ODI series since their 2-1 defeat to West Indies late last year which was also just the second such series since the 2023 World Cup.
In the opener here, the Liam Livingstone-led team were shockingly poor with the bat, and then conceded the game with utmost ease to go 0-1 down.

West Indies vs England 2nd ODI Preview & Predictions with Latest Odds*
West Indies had managed a sterling start in Sri Lanka too but had then fallen away quickly. This time around they are playing at home and would be particularly happy with the way Gudakesh Motie ran through their batting, restricting them to a mere 209.
What makes their performance even wonderful is that while England struggled to make an impact with the bat, the hosts chased down the revised target of 157 in a mere 25.5 overs for the loss of two wickets.
Evin Lewis, who has been more known for his performances in the shorter format of the game – T20Is and even 10-over games – blasted the England attack away for a 69-ball 94 and ensured West Indies would be doing well.
With the conditions expected to remain spin-friendly, England will need to find a way to bat better, especially given that the match remains a day game which allows the spinners to come in at both times – batting first and second.
