What Have The Two Teams Done Recently?
Australia
Since losing to South Africa in the second game of the 2023 World Cup, Australia have played 18 ODIs in total and won 16 of them. This includes their victory in the opening game of this series against Pakistan.
At one stage they were on a 14-match unbeaten streak before England won a couple of games in their five-match series in September.
Australia came back to grab the final match of that series to clinch the series 3-2.
Pakistan
Before the start of this series, Pakistan hadn’t played an ODI since their exit from the 2023 World Cup in India.
That made it nearly a year since their last one-day international and while most of their players were involved in the domestic Champions One-Day Cup, internationals prove to be a different cup of coffee.
And that’s how it turned out when Pakistan went down – but not before their bowlers put up a fight – to Australia in the opener here.

- Before that they had played in an ODI series in Pakistan in 2022 which the hosts had clinched 2-1.
Australia vs Pakistan 2nd ODI Preview & Predictions with Latest Odds*
Australia grabbed a win in the opener but not before they were given a bit of a working over. They had managed to restrict Pakistan to 203 but then fell to 155 for seven in response.
It was Pat Cummins who made an unbeaten 32 to guide his side to a win.
Pakistan can be quite proud of the way they fought, both with the bat and ball. The conditions were very pace bowling focussed with extra pace, bounce and movement from the surface and that they recovered from 117 for six to 203 was down to that very fight.
Naseem Shah slammed four sixes, one more than the three hit by the entire Australian team before Shaheen Shah Afridi (2/43) and Haris Rauf (3/67) brought them back into the encounter.
Can they stick together and take this very fight to the opposition again?
