What is the Metro Bank One-Day Cup in England? The Metro Bank One-Day Cup is a domestic one-day competition held in the UK each year during its summer. Over the years it has taken various formats but the one thing in common has been that all the 18 counties have participated in this tournament every season.
Last year, these 18 teams (mentioned below) were divided into two groups of nine apiece, with each side playing eight matches during the season.
Teams finishing at the top of the group qualified directly for the semifinals while teams finishing second and third faced off with the teams ending third and second respectively in the other group for a knock-out round to decide on the remaining two semifinalists.

What Happened in the Previous Edition of the domestic England One-Day Cup?
Somerset and Glamorgan finished at the top of their respective groups at the end of the league stage, winning six matches apiece. This gave them a direct entry into the semifinals.
Leicestershire and Warwickshire then went on to clinch their spots in the semifinals by defeating Hampshire and Worcestershire in their respective quarterfinals.
Glamorgan successfully defended 247/9 against Warwickshire while Somerset won by 23 runs after piling up 334/4 in their semifinals to set up the title-decider. in the final, which was reduced to 20-overs-a-side, Glamorgan made 186/7 and then restricted Somerset to 171/6 to grab the tournament win.
