What Have The Two Teams Done Recently?
India Women
India are 105-82 on win-loss in T20I cricket which is a win-loss ratio of 1.28. While it’s not quite the best in the business, they have also won 13 of their last 18 matches which is a clear indicator they are a team on the rise.
More recently, they featured in the Women’s Asia Cup in which they won four matches in a row to make the final where they were stunned by the Sri Lanka Women.
They were crushed in their opener by New Zealand Women before opening their account by beating Pakistan.
Sri Lanka Women
Sri Lanka Women might not have the greatest overall win-loss record in their T20I history – they are 58-96 giving them a ratio of 0.61 – but they are a team on the rise.
In 2024 itself, Sri Lanka have won 15 of the 21 matches they have played including the Women’s Asia Cup triumph in which they defeated the much-fancied India Women side in the final.
They were on a six-match winning streak before Ireland surprised them in game in Dublin in August in the lead-up to this tournament.
However, they have not had the best start to this competition with defeats to Pakistan and Australia leaving them with a lot to do.

Quick India vs Sri Lanka Women’s T20 World Preview
While India Women came back with a reasonably comfortable win in their second game against Pakistan, their defeat to New Zealand was so big that they are still struggling with their net run-rate.
Also, all of that might not matter if India don’t get to three wins from their four matches, for which they would have to defeat Sri Lanka in this game and overcome arch-nemesis and World Champions Australia in the next.
The trouble for India is their batting hasn’t quite gotten going despite a line-up to beckon on paper.
After they were bowled out for 102 by New Zealand in their opener, India managed to get to 108 for four against Pakistan, winning with only seven balls to spare – again that indicator of a flailing batting line-up.
They will need Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana to get cracking.
Sri Lanka Women have their own batting woes. While they are no longer a one-woman army, they still depend on Chamari Athapaththu for their runs and she hasn’t gotten going so far.
As a result of that, Sri Lanka’s scores have been 85/9 and 93/7, losing both their games with ease.
They did put up some sort of a bowling show against Australia but it was never going to be enough, leaving them with a lot more to do in this game. The good news for them is they have beaten India in the recent past and their opponent’s form itself hasn’t been the greatest.
We could see a top-notch game here.
All Eyes On
India depend heavily on their openers to give them a start but we are looking at some very difficult scoring surfaces and the pressure would be even more on the top-order to deliver when the ball is new. Shafali Varma will need to get going.
While Athapaththu is always the go-to player for Sri Lanka, Nilashika Silva has hit some sort of batting form for them despite the other failures. She would hope to continue in that same vein against India.
